N’GANDU SCHOOL
Since the school first opened in 1947, it had seen very limited development due to a lack of resources and funding. We recognized a need in this community and set to work. Children of N’gandu like the boys pictured here require proper facilities while at school. The organization added 1×3 and two 1×2 classroom blocks as well as three houses for teachers. To further improve facilities and sanitation, a borehole, toilets and a water reticulation system were put in. Having access to safe, clean water for drinking and to provide a sustainable feeding programme for pupils making it easier for students to learn.
Most of the orphans attending the school are being sponsored by The Butterfly Tree. When Johanne and Austin, from the remote village of Chibule, passed for Mukuni high school for three years they walked ten miles, each way, every day to better their education. Currently, both of them are studying to become teachers at a university in Lusaka.
