Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
According to the World Health Organisation over 2 billion people globally lack access to safe clean drinking-water supplies, while 2.6 billion lack adequate sanitation. Diseases relating to unsafe water result in an estimated 1.7 million deaths every year. Contaminated water can transmit diseases such diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio. Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 485 000 diarrhoeal deaths each year.

Staggeringly 6.3 million, of Zambia’s 16.3 million population do no have access to safe clean drinking water and 25% of all schools do not have a safe supply of water. More than 5,000 young Zambia children die each year due to diarrhoeal diseases.
In many remote communities people have to rely on bacteria-infected streams and contaminated shallow wells, and in some areas from rivers teaming with crocodiles, to obtain water. Schistosomiasis, also known as Balharzia, is common.

What our charity is doing to help bring clean water:
Our work is supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure access to water and sanitation for all. Our aim is to provide safe, clean water to outreach communities in Zambia; ensuring that schools have close access to clean water for drinking and food production for sustainable feeding programmes.
